#094 Snowy Finds a Ride
My Hergé fanfic for the @justmakingconversation Great Tarp Build featuring the Dora Wings Percival Proctor & Vega Gull in 1:72 (no electronics in this one)
Notes
I went on a shopping spree with Dora Wings last year and picked up the Percival Proctor & Vega Gull combo set (amongst other goodies).
I loved doing the Bellanca Pacemaker, but it took me a while to get around to the Percivals.
Although they never featured in a Tintin adventure, I always thought they would have, if only Hergé had more time for another few adventures.
Ideas started to gel when pondering what to build for the Just Making Conversation “Great Tarp Build”.
The Kit
The Dual Combo Percival Proctor & Vega Gull Military Sevice Dora Wings No. DW7202D 1:72 is just a re-packaging of the kits:
- Percival Vega Gull military service Dora Wings No. DW72004 1:72
- Percival Proctor Mk.III Dora Wings No. DW72014 1:72
These are gorgeous and uncommon subjects, but the kits are definitely “short-run”:
- fit is pretty dodgy.
- Locator pins don’t actually locate well (and get cut-off instead)
- and the canopy is a struggle - as Jonathon Mock noted on the Interesting Modelling Co.

Build Log
Building the Percival Proctor
Very comical;-/ Thankfully the figure is barely visible in the final build;-)
The fit is “ok-ish” but I didn’t take too much trouble to clean up seams and joins
A visit to the proctologist, and the Percival Proctor is ready to mount in-flight
Building the Percival Vega Gull
Mistake: I realise I build the seat layout for the Proctor instead.
And that’s the Percival Vega Gull ready for action..
The Finished Planes
Building the Diorama Base
Our heroes got repurposed from a Chicago Taxi 1:43 model from https://tintin.sg/
Constructing a hanger/club workshop on an irregular base of hi-density foam.
Planning the scene..
Working up the base detail (just don’t look inside the hanger - details TBD!)
Final Gallery
Snowy could never pass a tarp without conducting his own investigation… my Hergé fanfic for the @justmakingconversation Great Tarp Build 😁
Features the Percival Proctor & Vega Gull in 1:72 from @dorawings - a fantastic little combo. I think these are some of Dora’s earlier short-run kits, so they take a little effort, but the reward is to get these glorious and uncommon subjects.
Not my first Dora Wings kit, not my last! I loved doing the Bellanca Pacemaker; next up I think I’ll be reaching for the Savoia-Marchetti S.55.. Dora are a real gift for the modeller that wants something a little off the beaten path. @chris.meddings got Eugen from Dora Wings to share his passion for modelling and subject selection on Models From Ukraine podcast Episode 9, and there’s a review of their new P-47 on youtube (search for “@ModelsforUkrainePodcast”). Go check it out!
